Capital Campaign for The Community Theatre at Mayo Center
for the Performing Arts Exceeds $7.0 Million Goal!
Setting the Stage Capital Campaign is complete!
The Theatre is elated to announce the successful completion of its 4-year $7.0 million “Setting the Stage” Capital Campaign, an effort that funded the essential renovation and expansion of the arts facility.
The Theatre held a celebration commemorating the achievement at the annual Chairman’s Reception on May 25, 2010. More than 150 Campaign Donors and Starlight Members were the first to hear the exciting news – the campaign surpassed its goal, raising a total of $7.1 million!
Thank you to our Capital and Annual Supporters, your passion for the arts has made our future a bright one!
We would like to thank all those who participated including many longtime friends. We could not have done it without you! Your generosity, especially in difficult economic times, continues to inspire us to do better and dream longer.
“This was only the beginning, not an end in itself. The important thing is the future.”

Matt Finlay, Co-Chair of the Capital Campaign, announces completion of the $7 million campaign at the May 25 Chairman's Reception.
Just weeks before the announcement, the campaign remained open. Contributions had slowed to a trickle and we still had $100,000 more to raise. We stepped up our efforts to close the campaign by asking the entire community for help. It only took one new gift to jump start the campaign and the rest is history. Donations started pouring in from new and existing donors, board members and foundations. Their support helped to put us over the top!
The 4-year campaign saw it all: from the smallest donation of $15 to the ones that topped $1 million, from on the spot spontaneously written checks to the long cultivations, from stock transfers to pavers in front of the lobby; the Theatre appreciates everyone's willingness to provide for its long-term success. Funds from the campaign will provide generations of Northern New Jersey residents with the opportunity to experience the performing arts in a world - class building.
There are so many people to thank, and the Theatre would like to acknowledge the following people for their steadfast support and commitment towards the conclusion of the campaign- Marcia Hunter, Capital Campaign Manager, Matt Finlay and Bill Marino, Capital Campaign Committee Co-Chairs, Chairman of the Board Bob Mulholland, Lead and Major Gifts Chair and Joe Goryeb, Building Committee Chair.
As we celebrate this milestone and thank all those who made it happen, we know that our work must continue. The Theatre will always need both earned and contributed revenue to make possible all of its performances, programs and aspirations. We hope to inspire the generosity of all those who care deeply about the arts, education and our community.
The Community Theatre at Mayo Center for the Performing Arts continues to evolve. There are always new capital projects that are on the horizon. As a building that is nearly 75 years old, we continue to examine ways to add more upgrades to the venue and better facilities for our patrons. If you would like to learn more about what our future plans are and how you can support those efforts, please contact Marcia Hunter, Major Gifts Manager at 973-539-0345 X 6514.
The Board of Trustees and staff express our sincere gratitude to the following generous capital campaign donors who made our vision of becoming a world – class performing arts center into a reality. Their generous contributions are a commitment to the importance of strengthening our community and building bridges across cultures, by celebrating the magic of the performing arts.
