Morristown will soon look and sound much the way it did before the COVID-19 pandemic, as the Mayo Performing Arts Center gets back to full speed.
Rockers Pat Benatar, Michael Bolton and 38 Special, comics Jay Leno and Tracy Morgan, the 25th anniversary of the “farewell” tour of the musical “Rent” and dozens of other live performance events are part of the 2021-22 season MPAC unveiled Tuesday.
“This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for,” MPAC President and CEO Allison Larena said.
The season kicks off officially Sept. 17 with a performance by Broadway and cabaret favorite Linda Eder, who was scheduled to open the 2020 season with her tribute to Judy Garland.
That performance was canceled along with scores of other shows due to the pandemic.
“So it is natural that she be invited back to open this season on Sept. 17. I can’t wait,” Larena said.
As in years past, the new season will bring a full slate of full-capacity concerts, comedy, dance, holiday and children’s programming to the 1,300-seat theater. MPAC since September has staged more than 40 events in the theater at a socially distanced capacity of 150.
